Why in-house
One building, no extra trips
A lens sent to another lab for AR makes two extra trips, and each one is a chance for a scratch, a mix-up or a lost day. We don't send lenses out to be coated. The AR goes on in a Satisloh SP-200, and the lens goes from there to edging in the same building.
Under the AR sits a hard coat. AR layers are thin and brittle, and the plastic lens under them is softer, so the hard coat gives the layers a firmer base. How the layers work on the light, and how to tell coating failure from a scratch, is in ordering AR from a lab.

Figures for light arriving straight on, for the materials we cut, before any coating. The share rises with the refractive index, so a high-index lens has the most to gain from AR.

Put the whole lens on one order
Name the coating: Green AR. Put a tint, mirror or polarized finish on the same job, because the tint goes in before the AR.
On sun lenses, ask for back-surface AR. Behind a dark tint, light from behind the wearer bounces off the back of the lens into the eye, and AR there takes it out.

What AR coating does ITFIT use?
Our Green coating, applied in our own lab on a Satisloh SP-200 and backed by a one-year anti-reflective warranty.
What does the AR warranty cover?
Coating failure for one year. If the coating fails inside the year, we replace it. Send the pair in with the job number and what the patient told you.
Is it coating failure or heat damage?
Heat shows as crazing, a fine web of cracks from a car dashboard, a hot tub or a sauna. Coating failure shows as peeling, often starting at the edge. Ask the patient where the glasses have been.
Can a tinted lens be AR coated?
Yes. The tint goes in first and the AR over it, so put both on the same order.
Should sunglasses have AR?
On the back surface, yes. Behind a dark tint, light from behind the wearer bounces off the back of the lens into the eye, and AR there takes it out.
